You can buy shoe heel moulds or shape the heels yourself. (if you have a shoe in front of you it is a useful guide!). I skewered the heel with a wooden toothpick. Then I cut out a sole shape (trial and error does the trick!) from paper and used that to cut the sugarpaste sole. I used that same template to measure the wedge under the toe and then assembled the sugarpaste sole over the heel and toe wedge. You can make your own support (under the sole) with styrofoam or kitchen paper. When that dried (overnight) I used the sole template to cut the top sole, leaving a bit free for the red toe.
I cut out the red undersole (again, trial and error to get the size right) and carefully stuck it on (placed the shoe on its side to do this and didn't breathe....!!).
When it was dry I painted edible glaze on the toe area several times to give it the patent look.
I then stuck the red toe piece on.
I then painted the writing on with edible gold (painting is NOT my strong point!!).
I used a piece of paper to measure the template for the upper (once again, trial and error). I placed some black petal paste over some cream petal paste and then, using the new template I cut the upper sole. I let it rest for a minute or two, then brushed edible glue on the outer front of the shoe where the main area of the upper was to be affixed and (praying all the while) lifted the sugarpaste upper into place. I used squished kitchen roll to support the upper.
The party was the next day, so there was no room for error! in the morning I cut a little black piece to go under the heel. The shoe from start to finish was made in 24 hours. Not ideal....
The homemade template. Not perfect but did the trick! Used trial and error to measure it.
